Geen stenen, geen piercing — de glans zit in het oppervlak. De Dapple is een brede zilveren oormanchet, over het geheel bewerkt met krachtig handhameren; elke deuk is een kleine, oneffen spiegel, zodat het metaal bij elke beweging het licht breekt in een verstrooiing van heldere punten.
Hij zit hoog op de helix, de bovenrand van het oor, waar hij licht vangt dat een oorbel aan de oorlel nooit bereikt. Waar de Elara zich kleedt met pavé, is de Dapple het model voor elke dag: hij schuift in een seconde aan, stapelt boven een knopje of een ring en vraagt niets van uw outfit.

Ik noemde hem naar gevlekt licht — het soort dat door bladeren valt en in heldere plekken neerkomt, nooit gelijkmatig. Dat is wat het hameren met deze manchet doet. De deuken zijn bewust onregelmatig, groot en klein samen, omdat een gelijkmatige textuur vlak en stil wordt; de oneffen textuur blijft daarentegen glinsteren. Het is de nonchalante manchet, degene die op het oor leeft.
